Who. |
Smoothware Design is dedicated to creating rich and complex software for the multimedia authoring community. The company was founded to develop and market products resulting from research conducted by Daniel Rozin at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at the New York University (ITP). |
Why |
The main goal is to create software that is intuitive to use yet has richness and complexity. Most interactive experiences on computers are interesting and challenging from a content point of view, but the interaction is quite basic and relies typically on pressing buttons on the screen. Graphics too are quite static typically, and dynamic affects are not used due to storage and bandwidth restrictions. |
How. |
The software is written in the form of Xtras for Macromedia Director and Plug-Ins for Adobe Photoshop. Director is the main tool of choice for multimedia authoring. The combination of the ease of use of Director and the flexibility of native-code components (Xtras) yield a powerful and fast authoring environment. |
